After a contested jury trial, appellant was found guilty of delivery of a controlled substance, and on July 6, 2000, the jury assessed punishment of 10 years in prison and a $2,000 fine. On the same day, appellant's court-appointed trial counsel, Mr. Jeff Hale, filed written notice of appeal, and the judge noted on his docket sheet, "Attorney on appeal to be appointed."
