After police observed Ngo Tho Huynh receive cocaine in an apparent narcotics transaction, they arrested him and the State charged him with possession of cocaine with intent to deliver. Huynh sought to admit at trial a medical record containing statements he made to a treating physician blaming police for injuring his wrist and shoulder during his arrest.
