During the summer of 1988 Greg Saathoff purchased a rifle that he suspected and later confirmed to be stolen property. Saathoff kept the stolen rifle for nine years until August 1997—when police discovered the stolen rifle in Saathoff's possession. Saathoff was charged with theft by receiving.
