This case returns to us after remand. On October 29, 1996, defendant, David A. Belcher, pleaded guilty to having committed one count of first degree murder (count XII) (720 ILCS 5/9-1(a)(2) (West 1996)) on February 28, 1996, in exchange for the State dismissing the other counts against him.
