Following a jury trial in the circuit court of Cook County, defendant Barnett Carney was convicted of first degree murder (720 ILCS 5/9-1(a) (West 1996)) and armed robbery (720 ILCS 5/18-2 (West 1996)). Defendant had been charged with intentional murder (720 ILCS 5/9-1(a)(1) (West 1996)), knowing murder (720 ILCS 5/9-1(a)(2) (West 1996)), and felony murder (720 ILCS 5/9-1(a)(3) (West 1996)), with the armed robbery...
