Dr. Feld, an obstetrician, was a participant in the Florida Birth Related Neurological Injury Compensation Association (NICA), which was established by our legislature to provide no-fault compensation for birth-related neurological injuries to infants. §§ 766.301-316, Fla. Stat. (Supp. 1988). This entitled Dr. Feld to immunity from medical malpractice lawsuits for such injuries.
