Plaintiff Novamedix is the assignee of U.S. Patent No. 4,721,101 (the '101 patent), which describes an appliance for promoting venous pump action in the foot of a patient. In 1992 Novamedix brought suit in Texas against KCI New Technologies, Inc., asserting infringement of the '101 patent.
