I. INTRODUCTION

Appellants Minyard Food Stores, Inc. (Minyard) and Leslie W. Heflin (Heflin) appeal the trial court's judgment in favor of Appellee Brenda Kay Goodman (Goodman) in an action for slander. The jury found that Heflin slandered Goodman in the course and scope of his employment at Minyard and awarded compensatory damages to Goodman in the amount of $325,000.
