Following a jury trial in the circuit court of Adams County in which defendant, Gayla Davis, was found guilty of two counts of the aggravated battery of Shaunnalei Byrd (720 ILCS 5/12-4(a), 12-4(b)(1) (West Supp.1997) (as amended by Pub. Act 90-735, § 5, eff. August 11, 1998 (1998 Ill. Laws 3843, 3844-46))), defendant was sentenced to nine years' imprisonment on count II, relating to the use of a deadly weapon...
