Justice THOMAS delivered the opinion of the court:

The issue presented is whether defendant's 100-year extended-term sentence for the commission of first degree murder is constitutional under the United States Supreme Court's decision in Apprendi v. New Jersey, 530 U.S. 466, 120 S.Ct. 2348, 147 L.Ed.2d 435 (2000). We hold that it is.
