As a result of their son Jonathan's suicide, Janet and John Breese filed a wrongful death action against Kennestone Hospital, Dr. John Purcell and social worker Honey Caplan. They asserted claims for general and professional negligence. Purcell moved for summary judgment, claiming that his alleged negligence was not the proximate cause of Jonathan's death, that he owed no duty to Jonathan at the time of his death because their doctor-patient relationship...
