Plaintiff was employed as a manager of a Family Dollar Store. On 1 October 1990, she sustained a shoulder injury while retrieving a box from an overhead shelf. Plaintiff experienced pain in her left shoulder, arm and neck as result of the injury. Plaintiff sought treatment with orthopaedic surgeon Dr. William Somers, on 11 October 1990.
