On July 27, 1999, the defendant, Vashon D. Haywood, was charged by bill of information with possession of cocaine, a violation of LSA-R.S. 40:967(C). He pled not guilty to the charge on August 17, 1999 and proceeded to trial on March 21, 2000. Prior to trial, the defendant filed a motion to suppress the evidence and a hearing on the motion was held on the morning of the trial, with the parties submitting the matter based solely on the police report...
