The defendant, Abie Meshell, was charged by a grand jury indictment with second degree murder, a violation of LSA R.S. 14:30.1. After a petit jury was unable to reach a verdict, the state entered into a plea bargain with the defendant to reduce the charge to manslaughter, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:31(A)1. After defendant's guilty plea, the trial court sentenced the defendant to serve thirty years at hard labor...
