J.L. Lewis was convicted of assault in the second degree, under § 13A-6-21, Ala. Code 1975. The Court of Criminal Appeals, on October 20, 2000, affirmed the conviction, without an opinion. Lewis v. State (No. CR-99-0799), ___ So.2d ___ (Ala.Crim.App.2000) (table). We granted certiorari review.
