The defendant was convicted by a jury of murder in the first degree on the theory of deliberate premeditation. He was also convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm, receiving stolen property (a registration plate), and operating a motor vehicle negligently so as to endanger the public.1 Represented by new counsel, the defendant filed a motion for a new trial, which the trial judge denied.
