In April 1987, defendant Fe Teresa McCarthy performed a total hysterectomy on Kathryn A. Orloski (hereinafter decedent) at a hospital owned by defendant Bellevue Maternity Hospital Inc. In December 1987, decedent was diagnosed with colorectal cancer.
