Following the denial of his motion to suppress evidence obtained from his person without a warrant during the course of a traffic stop, defendant Steven J. Carty, tried by a jury, was convicted of second-degree possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5a(1). A charge of simple possession was merged into that conviction. Defendant was sentenced to a six-year term with no parole...
