On December 3, 1997, a federal grand jury sitting in the Southern District of Illinois returned a one-count indictment charging Armando Quintanilla with being a felon in possession of a firearm, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1). After the jury returned a guilty verdict, the trial judge sentenced Quintanilla to 87 months' imprisonment, a fine of $3,500, a $50 special assessment, and three years...
