Justice HOMER delivered the opinion of the court:

Defendant was charged with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault (720 ILCS 5/12-14(b)(1) (West 1994)) and three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse (720 ILCS 5/12-16(d) (West 1994)). Following a jury trial, he was convicted and sentenced to 16 years' imprisonment on each count of criminal sexual assault with the sentences to run concurrently. He was further sentenced to five years' imprisonment...
