Jesse Lee Mangrum, Jr. was indicted for trafficking in cocaine and possessing marijuana. Mangrum moved to sever the two offenses. The trial judge denied the motion, and the case was then tried before a jury. The jury heard evidence that police officers executed a search warrant at a house and found Mangrum there with a large amount of crack cocaine. They arrested him.
