Phillip Hammett was tried before a jury and, notwithstanding his acquittal on related charges, was found guilty of theft by taking a Snapper riding lawnmower, the property of Jerrideen Arrington, with a value greater than $500. In a custodial statement, Hammett admitted taking the mower one night from the Arrington residence, cranking and riding it down the road and hiding it in some bushes, and the next day trading it for $300 worth of crack cocaine...
