James Ray was convicted in the district court for Lancaster County on one count of possession of a controlled substance in violation of Neb.Rev.Stat. § 28-416(3) (Reissue 1995), a Class IV felony. He was sentenced to incarceration for a period of 180 days. He appealed on the sole ground that the district court erred in denying his motion to suppress evidence contained in his knapsack found during the search of a vehicle in which he had been a passenger...
