A jury convicted Raul Tamez of possession of a deadly weapon in a penal institution. See Tex. Pen.Code Ann. § 46.10(a)(2) (Vernon 1994). The jury found that Tamez had been previously convicted of a felony and assessed his punishment at fifteen years.
