Plaintiff Dennis Deans was injured on June 10, 1995 while employed by CSX Transportation (CSX) as a railroad brakeman. Deans' injury occurred while he was attempting to release a defective handbrake. Deans filed suit against CSX on September 4, 1996 alleging violations of the Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA), 45 U.S.C. §§ 51 et seq., and the Federal Safety Appliance Act...
