Sajid Syed ("Syed") injured his back in January 1992, while working as a chemical operator for Hercules, Inc. ("Hercules"). Syed brought this action under ERISA § 502(a)(1)(B), 29 U.S.C. § 1132(a)(1)(B), alleging that Hercules denied him disability benefits owed under the company's employee benefits plan.
