In 1973 Dr. Maria Virginia Hernandez-Loring was first employed as a teacher in the Ana G. Mendez University System, a group of private institutions of higher learning in Puerto Rico. In 1981, after receiving her Ph.D. in education, she became an instructor at Universidad Metropolitana, one of the units in the system.
