Richard G. Markgraf was facing trial for theft. Two of his co-workers, Michael Salzman and Porter Gilbert, were subpoenaed to testify as government witnesses at Markgraf's trial. Markgraf attempted to dissuade these two men from testifying against him. Markgraf told Salzman, "For an 8-ball of cocaine, I could get somebody to assassinate you."
