In May 1997, the trial court found defendant, Robert V. Donley, guilty of first degree murder (720 ILCS 5/9-1(a)(1), (a)(2) (West 1996)) after a bench trial and later sentenced him to 45 years in prison. He appealed, and this court affirmed his conviction and sentence, except for our directions that the court (1) modify his sentencing order to reflect that the truth...
