After a bench trial in July 1997, defendant, Shavun M. Hawkins, was convicted of criminal sexual assault (720 ILCS 5/12-13(a)(2) (West 1996)), attempt (criminal sexual assault) (720 ILCS 5/8-4(a), 12-13(a)(2) (West 1996)), and residential burglary (720 ILCS 5/19-3 (West 1996)). The trial court sentenced him to concurrent four-year terms for the sexual assault and residential burglary and three years for the attempt...
