The issue presented in this appeal is whether plaintiffs in a medical malpractice action may collect as special damages the amount of medical expenses contractually written off by the healthcare provider pursuant to its contract with the Medicaid program, a joint federal and state program which provides payment of medical expenses for indigent individuals.
