On June 17, 1998, the defendant, Joseph Rice, was charged by bill of information with possession of cocaine, a violation of La. R.S. 40:967. The defendant entered a plea of not guilty at his arraignment on June 22, 1998. After a jury trial on July 6, 1998, the defendant was found guilty as charged.
