Michael D. Sorina was charged by grand jury indictment on April 27, 1995 with second degree murder, a violation of La. R.S. 14:30.1. Sorina pleaded not guilty at his May 2, 1995 arraignment. On May 22, 1995, Sorina changed his plea to not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity. A bench trial was heard on October 24, 1995.
