Following a jury trial, defendant Michael Davis was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to 40 years in prison. The judgment was affirmed on direct appeal. People v. Davis, 286 Ill.App.3d 1116, 237 Ill.Dec. 539, 709 N.E.2d 1008 (1998) (unpublished order under Supreme Court Rule 23).
