MURRAY, Judge.

On July 23, 1996, Sidney J. Marts was convicted by a jury of purse snatching, a violation of La. R.S. 14:65.1. On February 17, 1998 he was adjudicated a third felony offender and was sentenced to life imprisonment under La. R.S. 15:529.1. He now appeals pro se, specifying 31 assignments of error. We reverse the conviction, vacate the sentence, and remand for a new trial for the reasons that follow.
