In 1979, Ramiro Hernandez was tried together with Daniel Santisteven in an Illinois state court for murder, was convicted by the jury, and was sentenced to fifty years in prison, where he remains. After his conviction was affirmed and his request for state postconviction relief denied, he sought federal habeas corpus, which was also denied, precipitating this appeal.
