By bill of information dated July 17, 1996, defendant Nelson D. Thompson was charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, to which he pleaded "not guilty." The trial court denied his motion to suppress the evidence, and he was tried on April 24, 1997, by a twelvemember jury that found him guilty as charged.
