On July 14, 1999, a grand jury returned a one-count indictment charging the defendant-appellant, Robert Crotteau, with "knowingly and unlawfully [taking], by force and violence, and by intimidation, from the person and presence of others, money totaling approximately $1,430," in violation of 18 U.S.C. §§ 2113(a) and (d), and after a jury trial, he was found guilty as charged.
