Three professors at Vincennes University, a public university in Indiana, brought suit under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 against the president, other officials, and the trustees of the university, charging retaliation for the exercise of the plaintiffs' First Amendment right of free speech and seeking both injunctive relief and damages.
