David Alan Long, the father, and Jocelyn L. Long, the mother, divorced in 1997. The mother was awarded custody of the parties' minor son. In November 1998, the father petitioned for a change of custody, alleging there had been a material change of circumstances. The mother failed to answer the petition or to appear at the hearing on the petition. Thereafter, the trial court entered an order awarding the father custody of the child and awarding the mother...
