After a bench trial, defendant, Maurice Dean, was convicted of armed violence (720 ILCS 5/33A-2 (West 1996)) predicated on aggravated battery (720 ILCS 5/12-4(a)(1) (West 1996)) and home invasion (720 ILCS 5/12-11(a) (West 1996)).
