Following a joint jury trial in the circuit court of Cook County, both defendant, Edward Morales, and his codefendant, Daniel Padilla, were convicted of two counts of murder (720 ILCS 5/9-1 (West 1992)) and sentenced to terms of natural life in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
