The parties are the biological parents of a child, Patrick (born in 1992). In 1993, petitioner was convicted of three counts of sexual abuse in the first degree and two counts of sodomy in the first degree, and sentenced to an indeterminate term of imprisonment of 21 1/3 to 64 years. By all accounts, the charges did not stem from any inappropriate contact involving petitioner's son.
