In this case, the defendant, Dr. Garland D. Miller, Jr., was found guilty of simple battery, a violation of La.R.S. 14:35, was fined $250.00, and placed on unsupervised probation for six months. In addition to the ordinary conditions of probation, he was ordered to provide medical services to the battered women's shelter.
