The defendant, Andra D. Slater, was convicted of two counts of attempted first degree murder (720 ILCS 5/8-4(a), 9-1 (West 1996)) and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm (720 ILCS 5/12-4.2 (West 1996)). The offenses were alleged to have occurred on October 30, 1996. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison on each of the four counts. The attempted murder sentences were to be served consecutively to one another...
