These two appeals arise from an adoption application filed in the Probate Court by the petitioners, Anne and Malinda (hereinafter plaintiffs).1 The following facts and procedural history are undisputed. The plaintiffs, two unrelated women, have lived together for more than ten years. In re Baby Z., 45 Conn.Sup. 33, 34, 699 A.2d 1065 (1996). Together, they planned for the birth of Baby Z....
