OPINION

FOWLER, Justice.

Over his plea of not guilty, a jury convicted appellant, Kevin Carlton Cooks, of three counts of manslaughter. See TEX. PEN.CODE ANN. § 19.04 (Vernon 1994). The jury assessed punishment at eighteen years imprisonment in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Institutional Division, and a $10,000 fine for each of the three counts of manslaughter.
