Respondent Parmjit Kaur Dhadda was accused of first-degree kidnapping and first-degree murder in connection with the death of her four-month-old daughter, Amrit Kaur Dhadda, who drowned in the Truckee River. The district court granted respondent's pretrial petition for a writ of habeas corpus, concluding that the state failed to present sufficient evidence before the grand jury, independent of respondent's admissions and confessions...
