The Jefferson Parish District Attorney filed a bill of information charging the defendant, Mervyn Williams, with two counts of distribution of cocaine, in violation of LSA-R.S. 40:967 A, and one count of illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, in violation of LSA-R.S. 14:95 E. The distribution of cocaine charges proceeded to a jury trial in June of 1996, at the conclusion of which the defendant was found...
