The State of Washington charged Douglas B. Williams, in Spokane County Superior Court, with one count of delivery of cocaine. Before trial a hearing was held pursuant to Rule 3.5 of the Superior Court Criminal Rules (hereinafter CrR 3.5) to determine the admissibility of custodial statements that Williams had given to a Spokane police officer.
